Well, it's almost that time! There are only four more days and it is back to school time!!! My daughter will be starting Grade 2 this year and is beyond excited to get back to school and see who is in her class this year. It makes life so much easier that she loves school, which she takes after me, not her father. LOL I am a supply teacher, so I am really looking forward to school starting back up as well. I regularly work between three different schools, so I am able to form positive relationships with the students. It will be so nice to see them and see how much they have changed and grown in the past two months.

My niece is having her birthday party today. She will actually turn 3 tomorrow, but the party is today at suppertime. I'm really looking forward to attending b/c I haven't seen her in months, which has been WAY too long. =(

This morning I got down to making her a card. It was the first time that I was able to use the new In-Colors and I must say that I really love them. =) For the card, I used a retired stamp set called "Button Bear". I have the bear holding 3 balloons, which represents her turning 3. I think it turned out pretty good. =)

So....when I started this blog 3 years ago, I was going to use it only to showcase the crafty items that I make, although I would sneak in a few random posts about various things that were happening in my life. Then....I just completely disappeared from the blogging world. (My computer was seriously acting up and wouldn't allow me to post on here).

I have decided that my blog will become a craft and home blog. I will still post the items that I make to share with you all, but I will also post about various happenings that are occurring in our lives.

Over a year later and I'm putting in my next post. Sad I know! I was having a lot of computer issues was able to do the bare minimum on my computer and after putting up with it for a year now, I had enough. I splurged and got myself this:

I have had it for almost a week now and I am absolutely loving it!!! I never buy things for myself so this was hard for me to buy, but I am so happy that I did! =)

I am happy to say that I will now be able to start posting on my blog again! Yay!

The summer is a time for me to try to get a stockpile of inventory for the upcoming months ahead. With me supply teaching, I never know how much I will be working. This summer, I am trying to make sure to get 2-3 of each item that I have on sale on my Etsy shop made, so when they are purchased, I will not have to worry about rushing and finding the time to make them. All I will need to do is go to my stash and get it. =)

Friday was the last day of school here! I honestly cannot believe how fast this past school year has gone. It seems like I just dropped my daughter off for her first day of Kindergarten!!! She did amazingly well on her report card and is definitely ready for Grade 1!

When people would ask her if she was excited for summer and school to be over she would always answer "yes and no." She would answer this way because she was happy that summer was coming but sad that she wouldn't see her friends everyday. I decided to make some cards that she could give to her friends. I used the set "Sweet Scoops", which I was so happy to finally be able to use. Inside the card I typed up a little note saying "I would like to get together over the summer for a playdate sometime. My phone number is XXX-XXXX and my Mommy's e-mail address is XXXX. I hope to hear from you." I had Samantha write her friend's name on the top and she signed the card on the bottom. She was so happy to pass them out to her friends and felt much better about school coming to an end. =)

I then took the same layout that I used for the above card and made some for the Grade 2 class that I did my internship in. Inside I wrote a note "I am so proud of all the hard word you did in Grade 2. I hope that you have a wonderful summer and get to do a lot of fun things. I hope that I get the chance to see you in Grade 3." I also went to McDonalds and got 17 gift cards and had $1.12 put on each so they could each get a free vanilla cone.

Ever since Stampin' Up made their announcement of the new Color Renovation that will be occurring with the release of the new catalog, the retiring color items (ink, reinkers and paper) have been selling FAST! Stampin' Up wants everyone to be able to get the items that they are wants to this is what they have come up with to help the situation:

1) Regarding the reinkers: For the remainder of May, any orders that cannot be filled will be put on backorder and filled as quickly as possible from those. Once June comes, once the supplies are gone, that's it.

2) Regarding the paper: (This comes directly from the Stampin' Up site) "To help us be able to provide you with the card stock in the retiring colours for as long as possible, we will be substituting textured paper for some of the smooth colours--including card stock in 8-1/2" x 11" as well as 12" x 12"--where the smooth is no longer available. You will notice these colours go on backorder, and we will be filling as many of those as possible with textured card stock. Because the demand for each colour varies, we are unable to provide a list of what colours of card stock will be substituted with textured, or at what point that will happen. However, if you receive a package of card stock that is textured instead of smooth, there will be a sticker on the package indicating that change. There will be no change in item code or price for these substitutions".

I know that I have been a bad blogger this year. I am going to "try" to start posting more often. No promises though; life is just so busy the past few months.

Stampin' Up will be releasing their new Summer Mini on May 1st. As a rep, I have had the opportunity to have a sneak peek. I haven't had a chance to play with the sets yet though. "Sweet Scoops" and "Go, Graduate" are my must haves from this catalog.

I borrowed the above image from Liz at DIY Paper Creations. You should definitely checked out her blog. I have been following it for some time now and have gotten many, many ideas from it.

When the current Mini came out, I wasn't too sure how I felt about the Clear Mount stamps. I did, however, order a few sets b/c I wanted to try them out myself so when customers asked me, I would have experience using them. Well, here are my thoughts:
1) In the picture above, there are 17 sets, both in the Clear Mount and in the Wood Mount. As you can clearly see from the picture, when it comes to space, the Clear Mount takes up significantly less and they are all the same size, which is great. I know that I always had a hard time organizing my Wood Mount sets b/c they are all in different sized storage cases. Having the Clear Mount sets solved this problem for me b/c I am able to easily store the DVD sized case.

2) When purchasing the Clear Mount sets, I saved money, which is always great, right?? With the money that I saved, I was able to buy some of the acrylic blocks to use with the stamps, as well as some DSP that I was wanting.

3) When using the Wood Mount, I would always get a little cranky if I were to stain the wood, which is always bound to happen at some point. With the Clear Mount set, this is no longer a worry b/c if you get ink on the acrylic block, you just need to wash it with warm soapy water.

So, even though I was not a big fan initially, I am now in LOVE with the new Clear Mount sets. From now on, I am going to purchase the Clear Mount sets whenever I am able to. What are your thoughts on them?

Sami has a birthday party of a friend to go to later this afternoon. I wanted to make a card for it. I needed something girly, so I immediately thought of the retired set Pretty Princess. I made sure to use looks of glitter on it too so it was sparkly. I hope she likes it.

Every time I place a Stampin' Up, I order myself 2-3 ink pads. I am starting to get a little collection going, but it seems like it is going to take me forever to get all the colors and I am using all my Stampin' Up Markers way too much to get the color of ink that I want to stamp with. I found a way to solve my issue. I have decided that I am going to buy all the Stampin' Spots; then when I notice that I am using a particular color a lot, then I will purchase that ink pad. The best part is that I can get a whole "family" of colors for only $29.95. Here is what they look like in the box:

I plan on keeping them in the box b/c it is the perfect storage solution and I want to be sure to keep the "family" together. =)

Here is a picture of my daughter at her birthday party that was this past Sunday. Her tutu was made by Kerri from Monkeybum Designs This outfit is perfect for halloween or for playing dress up. Sami wears it quite often around the house and cannot wait for the weather to get warmer so she can wear it outside. The tutu is made with yards upon yards of the softest tulle and features a satin wrapped waist and bow. It was listed as being for children up to age 4 or so, but Sami just turned 6 and will get a lot more use out of it yet. She had so many compliments on her outfit and I passed Kerri's name along to many people. =)

Here is the amazing cake that Sonya did from Summer Beary Cake Boutique It was a good thing that Sonya brought along some business cards b/c many of the Moms are very interested in having her made a cake for their children's upcoming birthdays. =)

I finished everything for Sami's birthday treat bags that she will be giving to her friends. I made ladybug finger puppets and hair clips, using ladybug ribbon. I also included a chocolate that is shaped like a ladybug. Here is a picture of all the ladybugs together:

Doesn't everyone love ladybugs? I know that I sure do! =) My daughter will be turning 6 next month and she insisted that she have a ladybug themed party. I am so excited to have the party. =) From her birthday outfit, to the loot bag goodies, and the birthday cake; everything is going to have a ladybug theme to it. It is going to come together so nicely. I am making everything that will be going in the loot bag. I will be sure to post pictures of the process as it comes alone. =)

This is a new style of tooth fairy pillow that I have come up with. I already made tooth fairy pillows, which are in the actual shape of a tooth, but I wanted to make an actual pillow with the image of a tooth as the "pocket" on the front. I was able to find the template of Martha Stewart's website. =) It measures 5" x 5" and is available in a variety of colors.

As you can tell from the pictures posted below, I have been on a felt cookie kick. =) These are felt cookies that are embellished with icing & sprinkles! The sprinkles are beads that are very securely stitched in place so they are not going anywhere. My own daughter loves to play bakery with the ones I have made for her and I use them frequently with my students in class.

They make a great gift for the little baker or an addition to any child's pretend kitchen collection!! These adorable sets are completely handmade and hand sewn with lots of care. It is made using high quality felt, securely stitched beads, cotton thread and anti-allergenic polyester fiberfill in a smoke free home.

Each cookie measures approx. 2.5" by 2.5" and is lightly stuffed to give it the look and feel of a real cookie!

I was late putting in my pre-order from the new mini catalog and sale-a-bration catalog, so I just received my parcel this past week. I ordered everything with the new clear-mount stamps, rather then the wooden block. I absolutely love that they each come in a DVD size case, which will be perfect for storage. I played around with the "Falling Leaves" set (p. 27) this evening and I really love it. I even had Sami helping out and stamped some of the leaves (no worries, no ink on the block Charlie LOL). I think it is such a great set. There is so much that can be done with it. Here is what we came up with:

It’s getting very close to the time when cardmakers around the world are starting to think about making Christmas cards. Some of us have already started making them, while others are busy gathering their supplies. One thing I’ve noticed is that while cardmakers love to send out handmade Christmas cards, they also want to make them ‘time efficient’ in order to be able to make lots of cards and spread the love around. Here are 10 Tips to make your Christmas cards faster:

1. Use a scrapbooking kit
Scrapbooking Kits are great for cardmaking because everything comes coordinated in one neat package. Choose a Christmas themed scrapbooking kit such as Stampin’ Up!’s “I Wish” kit and whip up 30 cards from the one kit in no time. (see photo at the end of this post)

2. Start with a card sketch
Like to make your cards individually rather than production line? You can start with a card sketch or two and base all your Christmas cards around that sketch while changing the colours of your cardstock and using a variety of rubber stamps. Having a couple of sketches to base all your Christmas cards on will speed up the process while still enjoying the creative process. Not great at making your own sketches? just find a card you like the look of from a magazine or a blog (like mine!) and copy the layout of the card to make your own.

3. Add Glitter
Even a simple Christmas card will attract attention with a bit of sparkle & shine. Use a glue pen to add glue to appropriate spots on your Christmas card then sprinkle on some sparkly glitter for extra pizazz in a hurry with no drying time.

4. Use punches
You can make a quick Christmas Tree for your card using punches. Try punching out some small star shapes out of some scrap patterned paper or metallic cardstock then arrange them into a triangle shape onto your card to form a Christmas tree. A bow made from some scrap ribbon can be placed at the bottom of the tree in place of a pot.

5. Use a Wheel Stamp
Wheel stamps are awesome for creating quick cards. A wheel stamp such as “Soft Holly” by Stampin’ Up! (page 33 of the catalogue) will give you a lovely quick background or secondary image for your Christmas cards. If you don’t mind doing production line, you can speed up the stamping by laying out all the cardstock pieces or card bases on your table and wheeling each one in turn. Use an ink cartridge in your wheel handle to stamp all your cards without reinking!

6. Use stamps with solid images.Unless you enjoy the relaxation of colouring in images, save those stamps that require lots of colouring for making Christmas cards for those select special people in your life. To make quick cards for everyone else that you’d like to share some Christmas spirit with, use stamps with solid images that do not require colouring.

7 . Use patterned paper
While making interesting backgrounds with a variety of techniques is huge fun, it does take some time. To speed up your Christmas card making, use patterned paper to add backgrounds or strips of scrap patterned paper for a fun background.

8. Go monochromatic
Gather your supplies in one colour that you’d like to use and add a neutral colour to make your Christmas cards elegant yet fast. Choose cardstock, ribbon and an inkpad in one colour, add white/vanilla/kraft plus some metal brads. Going monochromatic means you won’t have to keep cleaning your stamp to change ink colours and you will have all your supplies ready to go without having to think about colour schemes.

9. Wide Ribbons
Choose a wide ribbon and tie it around your card into a big bow. Wide ribbons add a bit of lavishness to your card and make a great focal point. And because they take up a lot of space, you only need to add a Christmas sentiment to complete your card.

10. Enlist some help
Have your children help you punch out some simple shapes that they can add to your card using Dimensionals (foam dots). Crafting with children is an excellent activity to share some special time together. If you don’t have children or they are much too young to help, then get together with a friend for a relaxing and social day of stamping. Making Christmas cards with a friend or a group of friends is a great way to socialise while sharing ideas and tools and gets those Christmas cards made in no time.

Sami lost her first tooth on Wednesday. I swear that it was loose for over a month so she was pretty excited when it finally fell out. She was determined to stay up and meet the tooth fairy, catch her and then fly around with her. LOL She ended up staying up until almost 1 o'clock in the morning! She woke up the next morning at 7:50am and checked her tooth fairy pillow to see what the tooth fairy left her. She was very happy to find a toonie, which she carried in her pocket all day. =) Here is a picture of my toothless girl:

A few months ago, I discovered an amazing scrapbook store in Fredericton called A Pile of Scrap. As part of their new endevor, they are going to be opening up an on-line shop. This is a new project that I have been working on. Sami has been wanting me to make her a badge for the longest time and she wanted her age on it. I actually love how they turned out (sorry that the second and third pictures are blurry). I'm thinking of making some for my class for the students to have. I have a few more that I am working on that have different "things" in the center of the circle on the badge. I'll be posting them as I get them finished.

I make personalized pillows out of felt. I was contacted by a lady who is having a foreign exchange student coming next week. She asked if I could do a red pillow with white lettering and if I could put a maple leaf at the end. I think it turned out nicely! I think it will make a nice souvenir for him to take back home.

Here is a picture of a tic tac toe game that I have made. I'm selling them for $5. I think they would be perfect for tic tac toe lovers of any age. Great for gifts, as well as for travelling.

Set includes a game board and 12 game pieces (6 each X’s and O’s). Game board is made from 7-mesh plastic canvas and chunky yarn. Game board is a 7” square. Game pieces are also made from 7-mesh plastic canvas and 4-ply yarn. Game pieces are 1 ¾” x 1 ¾”.

I am planning on making a few more of these sets in various colors to let the students in my class use.

When Roger first saw this movie preview, he has wanted to go see it. I found this a little strange b/c it isn't his typical style of movie. I have had the book for ages, but never picked it up until this past weekend. I just finished it this morning and I must say that I loved it! I officially start back to school on Friday. Next week, I'll be in the classroom getting everything prepared for when the kiddies start on September 8th. I'm actually looking forward to getting back into the classroom. I absolutely love the beginning of a new schoolyear and a new set of children to teach. It is such an exciting time! Something that is making this year much more exciting is that my daughter is starting school this year. She is so excited and already has her outfit picked out and her bookbag packed for the first day. =) She has been wanting to pack her lunch for the longest time, but I keep telling her that it is too early yet. It isn't hard to tell that she is excited to get started. =)

We finally were able to see the latest Harry Potter movie today. I have been looking forward to seeing this ever since it came out, but I'm sad to report that it wasn't the greatest. =( I guess I was just expecting a whole lot more! It just seemed boring compared to the rest. We did find out more about some of the characters though, so I guess it wasn't a complete loss afterall. I don't regret going to see it b/c I do love Harry Potter and look forward to the next installment. =)

We are up in Woodstock right now, visiting friends. Today, we went to Jellystone Park and had a blast! It was Samantha's first time on a water slide and she was so excited. She was too afraid to go on her own, so she went on my lap or on a friend's lap. We would take occasional breaks and hang out in the pool. We all had a lot of fun!!! When I get back home I'll post pictures of the outing. =)

Things in the Craft Den have been very busy the past few weeks. I have not been working on making cards or scrapbooking, which I have been really missing lately. I have been doing more felt creations and coming up with new ideas. One of my older creations that has really been selling lots lately have been my felt cookies, with sprinkles on top. They have been selling to not only parents and daycares for play time, but also to teachers to incorporate into their teaching. Teachers are using them for teaching colors and for addition and subtration tools. Selling these to teachers got to to thinking and I have many ideas in the making and cannot wait to show you all. I will soon be a teacher myself so I will be making lots that I can use in the classroom. I hope that others will find that they will be useful too.

Our trip to PEI went quite well, considering it rained every day except two. GRRR!! I am so sick of rain. It is even raining today. At least tomorrow will be sunny. I cannot wait! We are planning a BBQ tomorrow and lots of outside time. LOL Anyway, here are some pictures from our trip:

While checking out some craft blogs that I follow, I came across a post on how to care for your rubber stamps. I found it to be very informative and actually was not aware of some of the things that I read. Here is a list of dos and don'ts for caring for your stamps:

Things you SHOULD DO to look after your rubber stamps

* Always clean your rubber stamps before storing away This is something that I need to work on. Sometimes I get lazy and just put the stamps that need to be cleaned aside and start working on another card. They will sometimes sit for days before I finally clean them.

* Clean your stamps with a reputable rubber stamp cleaner. I like to use Stampin’ Up!’s Stampin’ Scrub and Mist. The Stampin’ Mist cleans and conditions your stamps, simply spray it on one side of the Stampin’ Scrub and then rub your rubber stamp over it. After cleaning, dry your stamp by rubbing it on the dry side of the Stampin’ Scrub.

* If you do not have a Stampin’ Scrub and Mist and cannot invest in one right away, then at the very least use an old washcloth. Wet the washcloth and wring it out so that it is just damp and clean your stamps with it.

* Store your rubber stamps flat or upright. Stampin’ Up! rubber stamps come in clear storage boxes that are perfect for stacking. If you do not have Stampin’ Up! stamps then I recommend that you keep them stored flat in shallow cardboard or plastic boxes, or drawers. If you like to have your stamps on display then you can have them standing up on a shelf as you would any other ornament.

* Store your stamps in room temperature.

* Store your stamps away from direct sunlight to avoid them becoming brittle and cracked.

Things you SHOULD NOT DO to your rubber stamps

* Do not use baby wipes to clean your rubber stamps. This is something that I was not aware of b/c I am guilty of having done this in the past. Using baby wipes will cause your stamps to become pale, dry and brittle. It doesn’t matter whether the baby wipes you use are non-alcohol based or non-scented they still damage your stamps over time.

* Do not wash your wood-mounted stamps under running water. Again, this is something that I have been guilty of doing. Washing your stamps under a tap will loosen the adhesive between the foam and wood and you risk your stamps falling off the wood.

* Do not store your stamps in strange ways. Storing your stamps in a colander, jar, basket or any other way in which the stamps are pressing against each other or are pressing against metal, wood, etc. This will leave dents in your rubber stamps which will then given you a gap in your stamped image.

I hope you have found these tips to be informative.

We had a BBQ at my parent's house last night. The lilac bush is out in full bloom and the smell is just amazing. I couldn't believe all the butterflies that were fluttering around the bush. Sami was so excited b/c the butterflies were so big! She got her net and tried catching them, so she "could be a scientist and examine them closer". Those were her exact words! LOL I was able to take some pictures of them before Sami disturbed them.

Here's a layout that I did of Sami and "Aunt Peggy". She is not really our aunt, but Sami has always called her Aunt Peggy. LOL Last summer we were visiting and mowed the lawn while we were there. Sami and Peggy were not impressed by all the grass that was on the lawn afterwards so they both grabbed a broom and began sweeping. LOL

This is a card that I made for a boy's b-day that Sami is going to tomorrow. It is using the stamp set and wheel from the Occasions Mini Catalogue currently running with Stampin' Up. I used the Cricut to made the number 3. The colors are not quite as bright as the picture is making it seem.

With Mother's Day coming up on Sunday, there is always the issue of what to get MIL from Sami. MIL is not a knick knack person and has everything under the sun. I decided to make a wallet album for her. It has three pictures of Sami in it. I got Sami to write "To Nana" and "Love Sami" in it. I hope MIL likes it. What do you think?
